It All Began…

Eight years after moving into our house we decided to take up the linoleum floor and install a brick look tile throughout the entry foyer, half bath, laundry room, garage entry, and mudroom closet. While we were at it, we decided that we also would love to do a board and batten wall detail. At that time our tile guy/mentor for all things handy was here installing the floors for us and gave my husband a mini-lesson on tiling, as we added a tile inlay border around the top of the board and batten. We bought a mirror, framed it out and integrated it into the wall treatment. It was going great! Now just to pick out a paint color. Should be easy, right?

…3 Years Later…

Thatโ€™s how long it took me to decide what color paint I wanted. I wanted a blue, like in Marian’s half bath, but people were telling me that the blue wouldnโ€™t look right. I thought of a gray, but too boring! We needed something bolder. Something that would pop! After seeing so many inspiring spaces with green colors I decided that was the way to go. Not a light green, no, but a sexy, dark green. A green that makes you want to take off your clothes. We were off to Lowes to buy our paint! Despite the craziness in our house, somehow I was able to ignore everybody, close myself in the bathroom and proceed to lather the walls with this sensual hue..ahem.. I mean to paint the walls.

But I couldn’t stop there! Nah, because I was on a roll! Recently, I have fallen in love with brushed gold fixtures so I bought the Jacuzzi Duncan brushed bronze single handle faucet at Lowe’s. I knew I wanted to mix the finishes of the accessories in the powder room, and the Truncated Cone Shade Vanity Light fixture from Shades of Light was the perfect match! This was a bit of a splurge but if I was able to live with a builder-grade light fixture for 11 years I figured I had earned the right to purchase another that I will love even longer. Next items up in the Amazon shopping cart, a matte black modern towel holder and toilet paper roll holder. Lastly, we added these shelves that have this faux leather support straps and some accessories.

Done!

Cross that powder room makeover off of the list of pending items long forgotten. It was a tiny change in our house but makes me so happy to have one space that I got to be a little bit more bold in. And let me tell you, that is one sexy powder room. And it knows it, because it puts folks in a mood when they go in there. So what rooms have you painted full-blown bold and sexy in your home?
