Electrical, Plumbing and Framing The Finale – One Room Challenge Week 6

It’s finally here ya’ll, the awaited end to our electrical, plumbing, and framing trilogy. We finally finished the rough-in plumbing and electrical and closed up all the walls. Wow, it feels good just saying that.

Welcome to our One Room Challenge Week 6 post. It’s been a long path this 3 weeks, a lot learned, a few mistakes made but all worth it.

Take a glimpse of past weeks updates and see all the work that has been done!

Electrical

We previously relocated and placed all the light switches, outlets, and electrical boxes last week. So the only thing missing here was the replacement of the old vent fan with the new smart Alexa-enabled vent fan. We can check this off the list!

Plumbing

This one was a pain. Thankfully we had excellent guidance on this and with Ernesto’s hard work we were able to knock this one out of the park.

What was done exactly? We replaced all our copper pipes with pex. Rotated our toilet, we had to move around the drain so that the new placement could be up to code. We relocated the waterlines for the new vanity and went from one sink to a double sink vanity, thus having to create a water and drainage supply and “attaching” it to the existing plumbing.

We moved 2 vents, one for the shower and tub and one for the vanity. Installed the drains for the shower and tub and added a water line for the freestanding tub faucet.

After this, we did a “hydro test” which is a fancy word for water testing, and confirming our plumbing job was on point. It’s safe to say we have a new plumber in the family, :D.

Framing

Last week we finished framing the his and hers niche in the shower wall. So this week was all about the recessed medicine cabinet niches (as you can see above) on the west wall where the vanity will go. And just closing up the walls.

Also subfloor was changed in some parts. And recessed and beefed up to support our curbless shower layout.

What’s next?

Waterproofing, mortar bed for shower and tiling. With luck, we can waterproof during the weekend and then just keep checking tasks off our to-do list. We can’t wait to get to the point where you see the pretty stuff go in! Hopefully, it doesn’t take us a 3 part saga to be able to finish this part. What are you most excited about seeing in this project? Comment below and let us know.

And on that note, let’s go and check out how the rest of the guest participants and feature designers are doing this week. And let’s get inspired together with all of their beautiful spaces.
