This bathroom wasn’t just designed to be beautiful, it was crafted with intention.
When we took on the Pear Tree project in Rochester, NY, our goal went beyond simply converting a walk-in closet into a spacious five-piece primary bath. We were tasked with creating a bathroom that not only stood out on its own but also felt like an organic extension of the rest of the home. Every room needed to feel connected. Every space needed to tell a cohesive story.

Maximizing Space with Purposeful Design
Transforming this former closet into a luxurious, functional bathroom was a spatial challenge that required creativity and strategic planning. Instead of isolating the project to just the bath, we looked at the larger picture: reimagining the layout of the primary suite to ensure it worked as a whole. This meant relocating closet space within the bedroom and maintaining consistency in materials, tones, and flow.
It was a balancing act, ensuring function and aesthetic harmony while remaining true to the home’s overall design language and working within the project’s scope and budget.

Thoughtful Additions That Could Elevate the Space Even Further
While the transformation here is stunning, we can’t help but dream of a few extra touches that would elevate it even more:
- Wall paneling at chair-rail height in the same soft paint color to add depth and texture.
- A statement area rug to introduce warmth and tie into the color palette.
- A vintage chest tucked beside the shower offers the perfect spot for towels, bath essentials, and a hint of old-world charm. Itโs also a great excuse to go treasure hunting for the perfect antiqueโespecially if you love adding character through one-of-a-kind finds.
- A small table lamp styled on the chest adds a soft, cozy glow, perfect for evening unwinding.
- Custom window treatments, perhaps with a fun pattern, to bring softness and character.
- Artwork that injects personality and color into the walls.
- Beautiful yet practical countertop accessories, plus fresh flowers to tie it all together.

While we worked within the budget limits, these ideas reflect how even a well-designed space can hold room for more imagination, more layers, more personal touches. This is how we would have further elevated the space if time and budget had permitted.
Design That Works as Hard as You Do
In many homes, especially older ones, renovations often come with layout limitations or storage concerns. That’s why thoughtful design is essential. Our work on this Rochester bathroom remodel is a great example of how rethinking layout, finishes, and flow can turn an awkward or underused area into a true sanctuary.
This bathroom is more than just a renovation. It’s a reminder that good design solves problems, tells a story, and transforms the way we live in our homes. At Design by Made in Casita, every project is an opportunity to deliver beauty and purpose.
