OK, so we’re doing this! One Room Challenge bring it on!
Very last minute and totally taken by surprise, we signed up for the spring 2022 One Room Challenge, hosted by Apartment Therapy!
As if the last Spring One Room Challenge didn’t totally kick our asses and take us quadruple the 8-week time period, bringing us right into the Fall 21 challenge! Being the true DIY and design crackheads that we are, we decided to sign up once again!
Maybe you’re thinking, “dear God, please don’t let these highly caffeinated and sleep-deprived sister-in-law’s attempt another bathroom remodel with their husbands in an eight-week period.” Well, not to worry! We will do no such thing. Instead, we will focus our attention on a full kitchen remodel!
The Before

Ok, ok, so quite a bit more substantial than a master bathroom, however, we don’t plan to do it all ourselves. Let us give you a little background…
The Story
My husband and I (Erica, that’s me writing this blog post which will then get checked and edited by my awesome SIL and blog partner, Marian) have gotten into part-time, small-time house flipping in the past few years (Check out one of our past flips here). With that said, we currently have a house that has a strict end date timeline and since we have to do the kitchen anyway, we figured why not just document it and use it as part of the one room challenge.
While technically it’s me and my husband’s business, Marian and I really lean into each other a lot when it comes to design (it’s sort of our thing together). We’ll get together and drink coffee and bounce ideas off each other or send each other numerous WhatsApp messages throughout the day and inspirational pictures etc.
We meddle in design, not just for a flip house, but for helping friends and fam with their home designs and for our own homes as well. In fact, we love design so much, that we’ve taken the time to educate ourselves and have grown confident enough to offer such services here on our blog!
Ok, that’s enough chit-chat! We actually started the demo in the past few weeks. Check it out!
The Now

The house is almost 3,000 sqft, has 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths. It’s in a mature neighborhood on a semi-wooded lot, with a cute little brook winding behind it. The architecture is colonial and it was built in the 1970s. With that said, it was important to us to stay true to its nature and keep the design along with the classic colonial style, but modernize it in its layout and finishes.
The Vision
As you can see in our vision board we did exactly that. We used a light neutral palette and brought in warmth with the natural wood tones and soft brass finishes. As for the layout we wanted to offer a very versatile space where it could be cozy yet functional. A space that gives you all the possibilities of all the must-haves in a dream kitchen, which you will see as the ORC progresses.

There you have it! That is it for this week. While you await the next week or two for another update, why don’t you check out some of the other remarkably talented designers participating in this amazing event on its 10th year anniversary!
